16 Blue- Competing Well

Within the last week the 16 Blue team has competed in two tournaments making great strides in both showings.  At the first Power League performance in Salem we competed hard from the 8am start to the finish of the day earning a birth into the 16 Gold Division. This was one of the team’s goals set just weeks prior and achieved. As new team goals have been set to compete in the new division, individual goals are also being met early on. Re-evaluating what we feel are achievable goals for our team was a process that was better understood through competition in the 16 Open Division in the President’s Day Tournament in Washington this last weekend. After having competed with three Platinum teams over the course of two days we discovered we have the ability to compete with the best. What is now our next step is to know how to win against the best when we compete. Scores in each second set were close with PVC- 16-1 losing 25-23, and WVBA 16-1 26-27, and PSVBA 15-1 26-27.

I am confident that our team is making some great foundational mental images of how to compete. In turn, it is our confidence as a team that is building allowing players to make greater individual gains. Strong serving, excellent defensive pursuit, and an attitude of relentlessness really gave our team a chance to shine against some of the physical  ”trees” we played against this last weekend. We learned that it is not always about where you finished but how you  played in each opportunity given. Very proud.
